Alan Williams - United Kingdom

After graduating from the University of Oxford, England, with a degree in Chemistry, Alan Williams joined the Corporate Planning Department of Fisons PLC in 1972. He managed a variety of assignments, including international mergers and acquisitions, in the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical and Scientific Equipment Divisions and revitalized the investment strategy of the company’s pension fund.

In 1976, Alan joined the Agrochemical Division of Fisons, where he held senior management positions in product management and licensing. In 1984, he joined the first crop biotechnology venture capital firm in Cambridge, England, now the leading biotechnology location outside the USA.  Subsequently, he established a life sciences consultancy which, over the past 20 years, has developed a world-wide client base.

Since 1972 Alan has also taught courses at several British and European Universities at undergraduate and MBA levels. He specializes in strategy and finance, particularly as applied to biotechnology and the life sciences. He has published several articles relating to strategy in biotechnology companies and has been a frequent speaker at international conferences in both healthcare and agriculture.
